Questions?

Who is Sinlar?

Sinlar Broadband is a wireless internet service provider (WISP) that serves the Rio Grande Valley metroplex. Using a total of seven tower sites, Sinlar has connected subscribers from Rio Grande City to South Padre Island, and from Faysville to Mexico. Competitive advantages are our small business style service, rapid deployment of internet to remote areas, and reliable high speed connections.

What's the difference in ISP providers?

1. Dial up, DSL, and Cable all use copper cables. Dial up being the slowest and Cable being the fastest of the three. These connections are the most common and usually found in established subdivisions or densely populated areas. Customer must purchase a modem for connection.

2. Sinlar Wireless ISP – Uses point to multipoint wireless technology. Antenna is installed on customers property to provide high speed internet with low latency. Easily deployable in remote area without establish internet providers. As long as antenna has line of sight.

3. Satellite – Low bandwidth and high latency. Usually has data limits. Only recommended when you have no other alternative.

4. Fiber – Highest bandwidth and lowest latency. Most expensive installation cost when not already available. If a fiber network is already in your area, and offered at a reasonable price. Get it. Seriously, our service is not for you.

How many computers
can I hook up to this service?

You would need a router to hook up more than one computer. Keep in mind, the more computers using the service at the same time, the more bandwidth you will need.

Will your service provide wifi?

Does your service have data limits?

No, download as much as your greedy self wants.

Do you offer phone or TV packages?

No, Sinlar only provides internet.

Is this service mobile?

No, we install a fixed line of sight antenna.

Why is there a price difference between
residential & commercial?

Commercial customers usually spend more time on the network. Commercial subscribers are also given priority over residential.

Can the installation be done outside
normal business hours?

Yes, Additional charges my apply.

Definitions

Bandwidth – The maximum amount of data that can be transferred over a connection in a given amount of time. Usually measured in Megabits per second (Mbps). Higher the better.

Latency – The amount of time it take a packet of data to move across a connection. Usually measured in Milliseconds (ms). The lower the better.

Availability – Up time in which the connection is usable. All connections are made by humans and will go down at some point. The goal is to make down time rare.

Data limits – Some providers have monthly data limits. Such as “5GB per month”. Once you reach your limit, you’ll either have to pay extra or be cut off and wait till next month to finish watching your movie on Netflix.
